A club of Golden Retriever fanciers was first organized in the Denver area in 1966. In 1969, the Golden Retriever Club of Colorado began pursuing membership status with the AKC and the GRCA. Finally, in October of 1972 after two official name changes and numerous revisions to the club constitution and by-laws, AKC granted the Mile-Hi Golden Retriever Club eligibility to apply for and hold "B" sanctioned matches. Shortly after this, application was made to the GRCA to become a "member" club.
Mile-Hi has been active in putting on GRCA events, sponsoring several Western Regional Specialties and the National in 1986. We held our first Independent Specialty in 1983. Over the years many of our members have held positions on the GRCA Board, including President.
The goals of the Club are: to encourage and promote the breeding of pure-bred Golden Retrievers and to do all possible to bring their natural qualities to perfection; to urge members and breeders to accept the standard of the breed as approved by The American Kennel Club as the only standard of excellence by which Golden Retrievers shall be judged; to do all in its power to protect and advance the interests of the breed by encouraging sportsmanlike competition at dog shows, obedience trials, field trials; to conduct sanctioned and licensed specialty shows, obedience trials and field trials under the rules of The American Kennel Club.
